How to diagnose

When you have ADHD, talk to your child’s teacher, physician or counsellor about the right treatment. If you are having concerns, early intervention may ensure your child experiences fewer disruptions due to their condition.

The paediatrician may suggest visiting a child psychologist who may conduct tests to know whether your child is eligible for the criteria of ADHD. Depending on the symptoms, they may be diagnosed with impulsive-hyperactive type ADHD, combined type ADHD.2 or inattentive type ADHD,

When you should visit a doctor

If you are extremely worried about the signs of ADHD, see your family doctor. He may even refer you to a specialist such as – developmental-behavioural paediatrician, psychiatrist or psychologist though it is necessary to conduct medical evaluation before checking for other possible causes of your difficulties.

There is no difference between ADD and ADHD. ADD (attention-deficit disorder) is the old term for ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder). Some children who have ADHD experience hyperactive behaviours while others do not though the diagnosis is ADHD either way.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is among the common mental disorders which mainly affect children. Symptoms of ADHD include not being able to concentrate properly, hyperactivity and impulsivity.
